Welcome Claremont Parents!
The purpose of last year’s (2008-2009) Houseblock was to provide students with a mandatory 40-minute study block on Thursday afternoons. During this block, students would work independently on homework, receive peer and teacher assistance, write tests, complete missing assignments and attend school-based meetings. As a result of poor attendance at these classes last year, the value of the Houseblock period has been called into question. A committee was formed, at the request of administration, by Student Council members in September to address this matter and find alternative means of ensuring that the needs of the students are met in a way that contributes positively to their education. We aim to gather data, opinions, and feedback from the students, staff members and parents in the goal of providing valuable information to assist the school in making the decision of whether Houseblock should be established again this year. The committee has conducted surveys of students and staff and is now looking for comments on this matter from the students, staff, and parents. Let us know what you think...should Houseblock be reinstated? If so, how can it be improved upon from last year's model? While you're here, please take the time to answer the questions on the right side of this page!

My daughter was not at Claremont last year. Is my understanding correct in that this Houseblock session was on Thursdays during regular class time? If this is correct and it is reinstated, when would the students complete their regular class that they would have attended if there was no houseblock?
ReplyDeleteEach block was shortened by 10 minutes on Thursdays allowing for a 40 minute houseblock at the end of the day.
